SCHEDULE YOUR FREE CONSULTATIONThe Midwifery model of preconception counseling is an in depth review of a woman's current health status and health promotion regimens. This counseling focuses on the health and well being of the woman and has been shown to increase the chance of having a healthy pregnancy and baby. Preconception counseling is different for every woman, depending on their unique needs. Based on the woman's individual health, the midwife will suggest an individualized plan, appropriate resources and follow-up if needed.
Prenatal visits are essential throughout the developmental stages you and your baby will move through during your pregnancy. Some of these visits will take place in the comfort of your home. I will take the time to address your physical and emotional needs to ensure that your prenatal experience is one that is safe and enjoyable. Resources will be discussed that you may decide to partake in if you choose. Services during each visit include lab specimens, urine assessments, blood pressure monitoring, nutrition counseling, fetal heart tone assessment and fundal height measurements to assess fetal growth. I will refer you out to a highly qualified sonographer for ultrasound assessments. I want to be there for you in anyway I can as you do the hard work of growing that little human!
I encourage you to stay in open communication with me when your labor begins. Communication is a key hallmark of midwifery care. I will come directly to your home as soon as active labor is suspected. Giving birth at home is a safe and viable option for low risk pregnancies. There you will have the comfort and serenity of a familiar environment. You will have the freedom to move around as you wish, eat what you would like, and relax in anyway that feels comfortable and calming for your body. Home water birth is also an option in either your own tub or a portable birth pool. Hydrotherapy provides extraordinary comfort for labor and birth. The combination of support, comfort and safety from your family and our team, is beneficial in facilitating a safe and comforting birth experience
Immediately following your birth I and my assistant will remain with you for a minimum of two hours to ensure that you and baby are transitioning as expected. I will assist with breast feeding, perform your newborns initial exam, evaluate the need for suturing, provide some instructions on caring for yourself and baby and remain with you until you are both stable. The birthing areas will be cleaned up as you and baby relax in a warm herbal bath if you wish. Your bed will be made with fresh sheets for you and baby to snuggle back into to enjoy a few days of rest and recovery. The soiled laundry will be started and the trash taken out before we leave. We want you to have nothing to do but rest and bond with baby. Over the next days and weeks to ensure that you receive the best possible care for you and your newborn baby, I will stay in close contact with you to provide support, postpartum and physical exams, assistance with breastfeeding, and answer any questions you may have. All of these services will be provided to you in the comfort of your home. My goal is to stay connected with you and follow the healthy development of both you and baby.
A well-woman visit provides the opportunity to discuss healthy lifestyle activities, perform medical and family history review to assess a woman's personal risk factors. I will complete a comprehensive history which will include a head to toe physical examination, including breast and pelvic examination. These assessments provide the information needed for appropriate recommendations for preventive services that contribute to the overall health and well-being of women throughout the lifespan. Certified nurse midwives care for women across the lifespan, and periodic well-woman visits are appropriate for women of childbearing years, perimenopausal and postmenopausal women. I will assist you with decision making instead of make decisions for you.
Family planning counseling involves an in depth discussion with you about your current and future child bearing plans. A key component of a well-woman visit for a reproductive-aged woman is the development and discussion of your reproductive life plan to ensure that testing and treatments provided are aligned with your current and future plans. Provision of family planning tools will be discussed and through shared decision making an option appropriate for you can be decided upon.

Olivia and her entire tea with Sweet Pea Midwifery were amazing! Olivia was so patient. I’m a little crunchy and was soo grateful she asked what my desire was regarding the post birth jabs 💉, vitamin k, the other tests they have to poke your baby for, the gunk they put in baby’s eyes right after delivery, etc. She was so caring to advise me what the pros and cons were for every one of them and was happy to support me either way.

We love Olivia. First and foremost- She know what she is doing. My baby had her cord wrapped around her neck during birth. Olivia proficiently unwrapped my baby so that I could continue to push her out. This could and would have been

Olivia has provide an excellent care for my and my baby. I was a VBAC and no midwife in the area was comfortable taking me in. In every session, she was very organized and proactive to instruct me in preparation for the delivery.

I have honestly been putting off writing a review because there simply are not enough of the right words for Olivia and her team. Amazing, fantastic, exceptional just do not do her justice. We chose a home birth for our first child and while most of our family and friends were supportive we did get some push back and as anyone who’s done this before can attest
