QUALITY CARE

When you choose Sweet Pea Midwifery you get quality care for all of the stages of your pregnancy. We are on call for you 24/7 for birth and emergencies, and available to you by client portal messenger or text any time you need us.

In Office Prenatal Care*

• Initial visit at 12-weeks (90 minutes)
• Referral for a high-quality anatomic screen/ ultrasound at 20 weeks.
• Monthly appointments until 28-weeks (30-60 minutes each)
• Every-2-weeks beginning at 28-weeks through 36-weeks (30-60 min each)
• Weekly from 36 through 41-weeks (30-60 minutes each)
• 36-week in home birth planning visit (60 minutes)
• Twice weekly from 41-weeks until the birth of your baby
• "Home Birth Prep" class
• Nutritional and supplemental recommendations 
• Prescriptive care when needed

*Most of our appointments are “in person” but if you or someone in your home have been sick or have symptoms that are concerning, we can do your appointment virtually while we see if you are healthy

Labor and Birth

• Once you’re in active labor, your midwife will join you for the duration of labor through 2-3 hours after the birth.
• Quality care including your birth choices for positions, nutrition, labor support people, etc.
• A thorough newborn exam within the first 2 hours after the birth.
• Breastfeeding support in the immediate hours after birth.
• Detailed health and safety information for mom and baby before we leave your home.

Postpartum Aftercare

• Check-in by phone or video conference on day 1
• In-person in-home newborn assessment & well-check for mom including breastfeeding support, newborn metabolic screening, congenital heart screening, and postpartum assessment on day 2
• In-person in-home newborn assessment & well-check for mom 2 weeks
• 6-week in-office final postpartum care for mother and baby
• On going communication throughout the first 6 weeks of postpartum

Coordinating your care

• 20-week anatomic screen
• In case of an emergency, client transfers will be made to the nearest hospital to your home. We will remain with you until transfer is complete.
• Non-emergent transfers will be made to our collaborative OB at Methodist Richardson. Your midwife will remain with you until transfer is complete and if able will attend the birth for support.

FINANCIAL ANSWERS

We believe that money should never be the main consideration for who you choose as your care provider, and where you birth. So, we have priced our services affordably.

Our clients pay for their care in payment across the course of their pregnancy (before the birth). Most of the time, it will cost the same to pay cash at my rate as it would to use your insurance in the hospital. That’s because the “patient portion” required by your insurance company is a percentage of the hospital fee which is 3x greater than my cost.

Sweet Pea Midwifery is not "in-network" with any insurance carrier but we do offer access to a biller who can file your insurance claim after the birth on your behalf. Depending on your insurance company, you may be able to get a refund for a portion of your fees.

Health Sharing

We have worked with health-sharing programs. We are more than willing to provide you with the documentation to submit before the birth and/or after depending on your particular program’s structure. Most programs pay after the birth, so you will pay the package price by 34-weeks, and then we will provide you with a super bill to submit after the 6-week postpartum visit. We ask that you contact your program to gather the information they need from me and provide us with the documentation that they request.

Insurance Billing

If you would like my insurance expert, Artemis Billing, to work with you and your insurance company, they can

1. verify your benefits
2. tell you your estimated out-of-pocket expenses and
3. negotiate with your insurance company to get us covered as “in-network” on a case by case.

She has forms on her website to enter your information, send her your card and ID, and she will verify your benefits.

Financing Options

We are fortunate to have an account with United Medical Credit. They have several great options and payment plans that will help you afford the customized, quality care you prefer. If you decide to use this financing option there is an additional fee added to the midwifery package you choose.

Another option my clients love is PayPal line of credit. You and your family may be able to finance your entire care with a 6-month, 0% interest plan through PayPal.

You are also encouraged to contact your financial institution to inquire about the possibility of a personal loan. Often times you will be charged a much lower interest rate from the financial institution where you have a developed relationship.
