    Classic Birth Books

    • Spiritual Midwifery- Ina May Gaskin's recollection of the births attended by all the midwives on "The Farm" in rural Tennessee.
    • Birth Reborn- Dr. Odent a surgeon and the head of the Pithiviers Maternity Unit in the 1970s in France participated in creating a revolution in modern obstetrics. In this book he explains the impact modern practices have on the laboring and birthing woman.
    • Birthing from Within- Pam England CNM and Rob Horowitz PhD came together to write this book based on encounters they had with pregnant women and their beliefs about what birth would be like. This book is inspired by the Birthing from Within child birth education classes
    • Birth Matters- Ina May Gaskin highlights the importance of birth and renewing the confidence in a woman's ability to birth naturally and the impact it has not only on the woman but society as a whole.
    • Birth Without Violence- Frederick Leboyer MD an OB in 1974, wrote this book which revolutionized the way we perceive the process of birth, urging us to consider the birth from the infant’s point of view.
    • Ina May's Guide to Childbirth- Ina May Gaskin in this two part book first publishes birth stories from women she and her partners attended on The Farm in Tennessee and in the second part discusses the insurmountable knowledge she gained throughout her experiences.
