SCHEDULE YOUR FREE CONSULTATIONThe next time I see you, you’ll be in your 3rd Trimester! All of the decisions you have to make for your birth will become a lot more pressing! And, my interaction with you will be geared toward helping maximize your health for the safest / healthiest birth possible.
An important lab that I will draw at 28-weeks is your Complete Blood Count (CBC).
The CBC reports how many red blood cells you have, and how much iron-carrying capacity they have.
During pregnancy, the normal trend is for your iron to drop in the first 2 trimesters. You will need to bring your red blood count and hemoglobin up by the time you are 36-weeks. Nutrition continues to be your top priority. Keep up the great work.

LEARN MOREAnother lab I draw at 28 weeks is the screening to determine if you have gestational diabetes.
One hour after you ingest 50 grams of glucose I will draw your blood. I’ll learn how well your body metabolizes glucose. I’ll let you know a few days later whether we need to adjust your diet to manage your blood sugar.
50-grams of glucose: I have 4 choices for how you can get 50 grams of glucose:
1) You can drink a “glucola”. I have one with fewer artificial colors in it so it’s not the terrible “orange soda” you may have heard about.
2) An alternative to the glucola is the Fresh Test, if you wish you may purchase it from https://www.inhishands.com/
3) 28-Brachs Jelly Beans. You may eat 28-Brachs jelly beans in 10 minutes. It’s not as easy as you imagine.
I have to draw your blood 60 minutes after you consume the glucose. Please finish your glucose 45 minutes before your appointment. I’ll draw your blood 15 minutes after I arrive.
If you prefer to monitor your blood sugars over the course of two weeks fasting and after meals I am willing to discuss that testing option as well.
As a community (out of hospital) midwife, I strive to make birth as safe and healthy as possible to minimize complications and risks.
One of the biggest risks is bleeding after birth. I have a VERY effective strategy for minimizing bleeding . . . and it’s super simple!
Drink NORA Tea.
NORA tea is a loose leaf blend of Nettles, Oat straw, Red Raspberry and Alfalfa.
BENEFITS OF NORA: Clients who drink two cups of NORA tea a day have a significantly lower risk of hemorrhage after birth! I have hand blended a premium NORA tea myself and offer it free of charge to clients.
